Custom Colors Can Be Tricky

We often get requests to use our customers leather and we almost always say yes with this caveat: You have to pick a back-up color from one of our leathers in stock. Using custom leather from our customers usually turns out great but because we are not used to working with it and aren’t sure of it’s quality and characteristics it usually adds quite a bit of extra work and potential complications to the process.

For example:

  • How soft is the leather

  • How thick is the leather

  • How will the leather react to pairing

  • How will the corners work

  • Is there extra just in case

One of the biggest obstacles is pairing (thinning out the edges of the leather) and personalization. Lasering leather is part art and part science but never just one. We are never sure how it will react to the laser and our sealer so we often have to do quite a few tests.

The second issue is we often don’t have extra if something goes awry during the pairing etc. We want every Bible to be perfect (we want you to read them and pass them on more) and sometimes weird things happen with leather!

We can do custom colors but we don’t necessarily recommend it. Instead we recommend using one of our existing colors. This ensures that we can get your Bible done quickly and have much better control over the quality and outcome.
