Catechisms Can Be VERY Helpful

If you have children or grandchildren it will be very helpful to consider using a catechism to help them memorize key concepts and ideas from the Bible. This practice has a long history inside the Church. Consider the book of psalms, or even a portion of the book of Philippians which was believed to be an early Church hymn/creed.

If it helps you can think of a catechism as an outline of phrases and responses to key doctrines from the Bible.

If you need help getting started we use the New City Catechism for a few reasons:

  1. The language is easy for children

  2. There is also an adult version

  3. There is an app

  4. There is a kindle and print book

  5. It lines up with the London Baptist 1689… :)

Whatever catechism you use consider the value of repetition and outlines to help children and adults understand the Bible.
