ANTITYPE
Understanding the way that God uses words in the Bible is essential. Some key terms to have a firm grasp on include:
Justification - a legal right standing with God through faith in the death burial and resurrection of the God man Jesus Christ
Born-again - the supernatural act by which God gives spiritual life to an unbeliever and indwells them with the Holy Spirit
Faith - trusting in the perfect life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins.
Imputation - The process by which God transfers the righteousness of Christ and substitionary death to our account through faith.
etc.
As important as these terms are it is just as important to understand how to read the Bible to see that Christ is the fulfillment or Antitype of many people and pictures in the old testament.
25 And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself. Luke 24
It is important to see that people and events in the Old Testament should always point us to the cross. Through their failures, words, or through their actions. See Genesis 22, Isaiah 53, Psalm 2, Genesis 3:15, Exodus 12, etc.
We must always look to the perfect life and substitionary Hell bearing, death, burial and resurrection of the God Man Jesus Christ, the second person of the Godhead.
